Juveniles at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale's under tack show on May 14 showcased some outstanding performances. A Volatile filly and an Authentic colt particularly stood out among the breezing juveniles.
The fast track at Timonium saw juveniles cataloged as Hips 1-200 breeze on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hips 201-400 are scheduled to breeze on Wednesday, starting at 8 a.m. ET, followed by Hips 401-585 on Thursday at the same time.
One notable highlight was a Volatile filly cataloged as Hip 12, who impressed with an efficient stride and a furlong time of :10 flat, the fastest eighth-mile of the session. Consigned by Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds, this chestnut filly is the offspring of Exchange Cat, a twice stakes-placed mare. Exchange Cat has produced three winners from as many starters, including the Grade Two -placed Grit and Curiosity, a Macho Uno gelding. Additionally, Exchange Cat is a half sister of two stakes-placed runners.
Bred in Kentucky by Newtownanner Stud Farm, the filly was sold to Hartley/de Renzo for $230,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale last year, where she was consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent. The filly was an out at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. Spring Sale of 2YOs in Training.
Later in the morning on Tuesday, Hartley/de Renzo, agent, got off to an impressive start as a long-striding Authentic colt they consigned recorded the fastest quarter-mile time of :21 1/5. The colt, cataloged as Hip 59, was bred in Florida by Bridlewood Farm and is out of the grade 1-winning Uncle Mo mare Gomo. Gomo achieved success at a young age by winning the Gr.1 Alcibiades Stakes (2015) at Keeneland.
The first-crop sire Authentic, sired by Into Mischief, triumphed in the Gr.1 Kentucky Derby (2020) and Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Classic ,earning the title of Horse of the Year.
Hartley/de Renzo acquired the colt for $300,000 at last year's Keeneland September sale, with @Bridlewood Farm (Gainesway agent) as the consignor. The colt did not meet the reserve at the OBS March 2YO in Training Sale despite a highest bid of $385,000.
Four 2Yos blazed through a furlong in :10 1/5 seconds on Tuesday: Hip 10, a daughter of Liam's Map; Hip 46, a son of freshman sire Thousand Words; Hip 83, a daughter of Uncle Mo; and Hip 187, a son of Good Magic.
The Liam's Map filly, consigned by Camelot Acres Racing & Sales, agent, is out of the unraced Into Mischief mare Estoril, who is a half-sister to grade 3 winner Tide of the Sea and two stakes-placed runners.
The Thousand Words colt, consigned by Shamrock Stable, is sired by Tiz Wonderful mare Georgia, who has already produced two winners out of three starters.
The Uncle Mo filly, consigned by Pike Racing at Highlander, is out of the Grade Three winner Hot City Girl. Hot City Girl, a half-sister to 2015 champion female sprinter La Verdad, has her first starter as a winner.
Consigned by SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa), the Good Magic colt is the third foal out of the stakes-winning J Be K mare Money or Love, who is a half-sister to multiple Grade One winner and sire World of Trouble.
