Voyage Bubble stepped up his preparations for the Gr.1 Yasuda Kinen with a comfortable trial win over 1000m at Sha Tin this week. Trainer Ricky Yiu was pleased with the performance.
Facing eight relatively inexperienced rivals, Voyage Bubble cruised through the early stages of the trial before responding to jockey Zac Purton's urging. He finished with a one-and-a-half length margin over Circuit Victory at the line, clocking 58.31s without being extended.
Yiu commented, "The trial was good. Forget about the field in the trial - he was only against 2YOs and 3YOs - but we do our own thing. The feedback was all positive."
Voyage Bubble will travel to Japan at the end of May along with Romantic Warrior and Romantic Charm. Zac Purton will ride Voyage Bubble in the Yasuda Kinen, while James McDonald will partner Romantic Warrior, who is seeking his fifth Group One of the season and his second abroad following his historic success in the Gr.1 W.S. Cox Plate last year.
In another trial, Senor Toba looked fresh and performed well over 1200m on Sha Tin's All Weather Track, finishing fourth to Adefill. Trainer Caspar Fownes expressed his optimism and stated, "We'll just scope him and make sure everything is alright, so hopefully he scopes up well."
