Gypsy Goddess’ remarkable win in the Gr.1 Queensland Oaks was the highlight of David Vandyke’s training career. The trainer was reduced to tears when Gypsy Goddess gave her rivals a galloping lesson in the Oaks.
Having won the Gr.1 previously, twice with Yankee Rose and once with headline horse Alligator Blood, said this was the finest moment of his training career.
The Australian Oaks runner-up proved simply too good with Willie Pike grabbing his first Gr.1 win since permanently relocating from Perth to Sydney.
Vandyke trained Gypsy Goddess jumped in the Oaks on the Eagle Farm track where she had previously won four from four while second favorite Barb Raider tried her heart out with no loss of popularity.
Mornington trainer Jerome Hunter, who fell just short of winning his first Gr.1, was making no excuses.
