The Sydney-trained filly of The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable, North Star Lass, has been dispatched to Melbourne to contest the Gr.1 Thousand Guineas on Wednesday and potentially race on a good track for the first time.
To date, North Star Lass has competed in six races, all of which took place on the impacted surface. She debuted in August on a Soft 5 track at Randwick and finished third in the Gr.2 Silver Shadow Stakes. North Star Lass has won four of her six races on "heavy" ground, including the Gr.2 Furious Stakes at Randwick last month.
“I don’t think she has had the opportunity of racing on good ground,” Waterhouse said.
North Star Lass led and fought on bravely to finish third in the Gr.1 Flight Stakes , her most recent outing.
Waterhouse and Bott know what is required to win the Thousand Guineas having taken out the race with Global Glamour in 2016.
“She’s a beautiful filly, a big filly,” Waterhouse said. “She has handled the wet very well up in Sydney and she has handled hard racing. She seems a very tenacious type of filly.”
